Leviticus 7:1-38 - Guilt and Fellowship Offerings

7:1-21

We get a break from the offerings after this chapter. This chapter gives a little more detail on guilt and fellowship offerings, and focuses on the food that the priests and would-be priests can have. The food that the priests (or male’s in their family) had to eat the food in the sanctuary because it was most holy, i.e. dedicated to the Lord.

There is an extension of the regulations for fellowship offerings. Two sub-categories, thanks offerings, and vows, are mentioned. For the most part yeast must not be included in offerings, but for the fellowship it is allowed (Lev 7:13). There are also rules on how soon the meat had to be eaten, mostly on the same day, though an extra day was allowed for some sorts of offerings.

7:22-27

The people were not allowed to eat the fat of animals, though it could be used for other purposes. Nor were they to eat the blood of animals. This has been mentioned before, Gen 9:4 being the first mention, with the reason being that the life was in the blood.

7:28-38

The chapter finishes with regulations regarding the priest’s share. When they finally get to the Promised Land, the Levites do not get an allocation like the other tribes. So the food given to the Lord was shared with the priests.
