Isaiah 44:10-13 - Who makes an idol?

44:10,11
Isaiah now expands on those who make idols. Idols are made by men! The one true God created all things. How foolish it is to worship idols. What good can the idol do for anyone? Moreover, the people who make the idols will be put to shame. They are only men, so how can they hope to create anything that is able to control our lives? We might say that same is happening today with the myth of AI. This is not to say that useful things cannot be produced by computer science, but to imagine that it can produce autonomous life is nonsense. God invites all the idol creators to stand before Him and face judgement, which will not end well for them.

44:12,13

Isaiah continues to point out the futility of the work of the idol makers. Remember that the people of the day would be familiar with the processes that he is describing. Isaiah outlines the process, including the tiredness and thirst of the blacksmith. The carpenter makes an idol in human form. Sceptics often accuse us of making God in our image, but the truth is that He created us in His image, and when sinful man tries to make an idol he makes one in his own image.
