Isaiah 44:14-20 - Is there not a lie in my right hand?

44:14-17
The description of the work of the idol maker continues. There is a useful principle here. The worship of idols would add a mystique or awe to the people, and their enemies might fear them, as Israel did her enemies. However, a sensible look at what they were actually doing, ie worshipping and trusting in things they had made themselves, would reveal that there was absolutely nothing to worry about. The dissection here of what idol worship is actually about exposes the futility of it all, especially of the final statement in this section “Save me! You are my god!”. Today there is a place for doing the same, a cold hard look at what the world is saying, a look at the facts, very quickly exposes the foolishness of it all. Take trans-ideology, it only takes a moment of sensible thought to see the stupidity of the ideology.

44:18-20

“They know nothing, they understand nothing”. Critics often accuse Christianity of being gullible, or believing things without reason or evidence. Nothing could be further from the truth. Isaiah exposes the utter foolishness of idol-worship with cold hard logic. Verse 18 applies both to the idols and to those who worship them. “No one stops to think”. How well we could apply this statement to our own generation? “A deluded heart misleads them”, “they cannot save themselves”. The minds of those without God are blinded, they cannot recognise the foolishness of what they see and what they do.
