Mark 15:12-20 - Crucify Him!

15:12-15
Pilate was not a leader. He was not prepared to grasp hold of the situation, but tried to wrangle his way out of it. So he asked the crowds what should he do with Jesus. “Crucify Him!” was the unwelcome response that he got. Pilate did not want to do this, so he asked them what crime Jesus had committed. The crowds did not answer the question but merely continued to should “Crucify Him!”. Crowds can easily be manipulated, as this one had been by the chief priests. Pilate was not a strong man. Early in his governorship he had sought to bring the Roman standards into Jerusalem, but had been forced to back down by the Jews who regarded them as idols. So he gave in again, handed Jesus over to be flogged and then crucified.

15:16-20
The Jewish religious leaders were the ones to instigate the crucifixion from a human perspective, but all of us were implicated. They got the crowds to shout “crucify Him!”. The Roman leadership was involved, and the Roman soldiers mocked and struck Jesus. None of us are innocent. The pretended that Jesus was a king, not realising how much of king He truly was and is. The world rejected the Son of God.
