A people in rebellion are determined to avoid the ways of the Lord. They don't want to hear the word of the Lord, they no longer want to know anything about Him. But it gets even worse than this, they positively want to leave God's paths. Again, we see this happening in our societies in the West, but we should be hopeful because Isaiah is describing our situation so accurately. For this prophecy also offers hope, and we will only fully appreciate the hope when we fully appreciate the depths of the problem.

But we should not think that the solution is easy, nor that the road to salvation is straightforward and neglects the seriousness of sin. First, why is the way so hard? It is because people despise the word of the Lord. Instead they rely on "oppression and perverseness". See how the LGBT and abortion agendas are working out. Anyone who questions these things is branded a bigot, oppression is used. And their ways are perverse, we see this especially with abortion and trans-ideology. If we look at these things with a cool head, taking a balanced view, we would realise that our current ways are ways of madness.
