Isaiah 30:2-5 - Everyone will be put to shame

30:2,3
So what were their plans? They sent envoys to Egypt to form an alliance against Assyria. The motive seemed reasonable enough, and the action probably looked sensible, but it wasn't of God. They were not following God's direction. They thought Assyria was the problem, but the real problem was their rebellion against God. In our own time society is beset by many problems, but the root problem is that we have abandoned our Christian heritage. Seeking shelter in the shadow of Egypt would not work. Indeed, it would only bring shame upon the nation.

30:4,5

Egypt had never proved to be a reliable ally or help. She might have the outward look of someone who would be helpful, the outward trappings, but this would always prove to be a sham, and so anyone who trusted in her would be put to shame. It would prove to be a foolish thing to seek help from Egypt. When we seek help in the wrong places it brings shame and disgrace upon us.
