Judges 7:19-25 - A sword for the Lord and for Gideon

7:19-21

The small army reached the camp, and then blew their trumpets and smashed their jars. They then shouted “a sword for the Lord and for Gideon!”. The reason for this war cry was probably because of the dream that Gideon had heard the Midianites speaking about, so they would then think that the dream was coming true. The camp was thrown into confusion, and the Midianites fled.

7:22-25

We are then told how things actually worked out in the camp. The men in the camp turned upon themselves with their swords. So God used the enemy’s sword against himself, and in the ensuing panic and chaos the Midianite army fled. Israelites from Naphtali, Asher and Manasseh pursued them. Gideon then issued a rallying call to all of the hill country, calling on them to come down against the Midianite camp and to seize the waters of the Jordan, which they then did.

They also captured two of the Midianite leaders and killed them.
