7:15,16
Gideon was greatly encouraged by the dream and its interpretation. We easily become overwhelmed by our own fears, but we need to remember that the enemy is also in fear. In response Gideon bowed down and worshipped the Lord. He then went to the camp and roused the army (all three hundred of them, remember). He declared to them that the Lord had given the Midianite camp into their hands. The army was “armed” with trumpets and empty jars with torches inside them.
7:17,18
Gideon was now actively leading the army, commanding the people to follow his lead. They were to do exactly as he said. The instructions are a little reminiscent of Jericho, for at his command the people are to blow their trumpets. There seem to have been no swords involved, only the blowing of trumpets. The only effect this could have had would have been to add to an atmosphere of panic in the enemy camp.
