Acts 13:39-41 - Everyone who believes is set free

13:39

“Everyone who believes is set free from every sin”. Paul then declares  “a justification you were not able to obtain under the law of Moses”. Here Paul is talking about being “set free” from sin in terms of being justified. Sin makes us guilty and therefore under the wrath of God. The law of Moses could not truly justify anyone, but through faith in Christ we are justified, we are set free.

13:40,41

The promise of the gospel is amazing, it is a fantastic thing, to have all our sins forgiven. Paul gives his hearers a severe warning, quoting from Hab 1:5. Believing the gospel is not a suggestion, but a command. It is a command from God, and failing to obey the command means that we remain in sin, and therefore under God’s wrath. It is a serious business.
