24:24-28
The people declare their intention to serve and obey the Lord. Joshua made a covenant for the people. So they were solemnly promising to live according to the ways of the Lord. A large stone was set up as a reminder of the covenant they had made. The people happily tied themselves to this covenant, Joshua reminded them that it would stand against them if they failed to hold true to it. The people were then dismissed.
24:29-33
The time of Joshua is now at an end. He died at the age of one hundred and ten and was buried in the land of his inheritance. The people of Israel did serve the Lord throughout the time of Joshua’s leadership, and of the elders who outlived him, and had experienced the things that God had done. Experience matters, and part of the Christian life should be an ongoing experience of the reality of God’s love for us. In accordance with his instructions, Joseph’s bones had been carried up from Egypt and were buried at Shechem. It is noted that Jacob had bought this land many years ago. Eleazar also died.
