9:32-35
We now move back to Peter. He travelled around Israel, visiting the Lord’s people. Here he goes to Lydda.Lydda was about 23 miles northwest of Jerusalem and was on a trade route. He met a man called Aeneas who had been paralysed and bedridden since the age of eight. There is no build up here, Peter simply told him that Jesus heals him and told him to get up. The man responded immediately, and the miracle impacted all the people of Lydda and Sharon, and many turned to the Lord. With the description of Peter’s activities in Acts we see a greater emphasis on the miracles, than we do with Paul. We also see here that there is a link between miracles and salvations. Now miracles do not always “work” in this way, and we must never think that miracles can be a substitute for good preaching. Nor should we ever think that good preaching means God won’t use miracles. We need a complete Biblical picture. The truth is that powerful effective preaching is dependent upon the Holy Spirit, and miracles are dependent upon the Holy Spirit.
