Acts 10:24-29 - I am only a man myself

10:24-26

Peter left the next day, and some of the believers from Joppa went along with him. The following day they arrived in Caesarea. Cornelius had also got things ready, and had his relatives and close friends with him. Cornelius was expecting something to happen. When Peter arrived he fell at Peter’s feet. Peter told him to stand up, declaring himself to be just a man like Cornelius. Peter’s earlier failure had perhaps helped with his humility. Also the vision experience had also helped with his attitude.

10:27-29

Peter went inside and found a large crowd, the people that Cornelius had gathered. Peter started by dealing with the cultural situation. They were probably aware that Jews were not allowed to enter the home of a Gentile, so why did Peter feel able to do so now? Peter uses the terms “unclean” and “impure”, for they would be familiar with these terms, especially as most of them were God-fearers. So Peter tells them God has shown him that he should not call anyone unclean or impure. So Peter had come to visit them in obedience to the Lord. He then asks them to say why they had sent for him.
