Acts 7:4-7 - He left the land of the Chaldeans

7:4,5

The key points made here are:

  • God sent him to the land of what was then Israel;

  • Abraham had no immediate inheritance in the land;

  • God promised the land to his descendants.

The promise to Abraham was for the future, it was something that was humanly impossible, for Abraham had no children.

7:6,7

God also told him that the people would be in captivity for four hundred years. This refers to the time in Egypt. They would be enslaved and mistreated. The nation that mistreated them, Egypt, would be punished. They would then be released from Egypt and brought to the Promised Land, there they would worship the Lord. They were set free in order to worship the Lord. Likewise, we are set free from sin in order to worship the Lord. We need to appreciate how central worship is to our purpose. In every circumstance we should worship the Lord.
