7:23-26
Perhaps Stephen is drawing another parallel here, this time between Moses and Jesus. Many of the heroes of the Old Testament were “types” of Christ, i.e. they exhibited some of the characteristics of Christ, while being massively imperfect and the parallel being far from perfect.. So Moses came from a different place (i.e. Pharaoh’s palace), like Jesus came from heaven, from being with the Father. Moss then went to “visit his own people”, just as Jesus came to earth to visit His own people (John 1:9). Moses sought to rescue and help his people, and thought that they would recognise that God was using him to help them. So he killed an Egyptian who was mistreating an Israelite, and stopped two Israelites fighting each other.
7:27-29
However, the Israelites did not recognise Moses as their saviour, just as the Jews did not recognise Jesus as their saviour (John 1:10,11). So they rejected Moses, just as the Jews had rejected Jesus. Moses ended up fleeing to Midian.
