5:31
Whatever men may have thought or done was irrelevant, for God exalted Jesus to “His own right hand”. So when it comes down to a choice between what men think and what God has done, there really is only one correct option. Moreover, Jesus was exalted as “Prince and Saviour”. So He is the One who rules, and He is the One who saves. And God’s will is that Israel will repent and receive forgiveness for their sins. Indeed, this is God’s will for all people.
5:32
Peter and the other apostles said they were witnesses to these things, they were witnesses to what God had done, and was doing. Moreover, the Holy Spirit also bore witness, this is a fulfilment of what Jesus said in John 15:26. It was because of the joint witness of the Holy Spirit and the disciples that many came to faith.
5:33
The reaction of the Sanhedrin was similar to their reaction to Jesus Himself. Instead of reacting to the conviction with repentance and faith, they reacted with anger and fury. This is a common human response, it is by the grace of the Holy Spirit that a man or woman is able to respond properly.
