3:6
The priests carried the ark of the covenant and went before the people. So we have the presence of God in the lead. The mediators, i.e. the priests, are there too. In the same way, Jesus, our Great High Priest, went ahead of us, leading the way.
3:7
“Today I will begin to exalt you ...”. In Gen 12:2 God said to Abraham “I will make your name great and you will be a blessing”. God exalts His servants. Now, of course, we have to be very careful here, as it is very easy for us to take this in the wrong way, and pride can quickly get a hold, but God does exalt His people, look at the Bible! This does not mean an easy life. It certainly does not mean an absence of suffering, look at Jesus! Jesus is the supreme example, being exalted to the highest place, but going there via the cross. God will show the Israelites that He is with Joshua as He was with Moses.
