Joshua 3:4,5 - Consecrate yourselves

3:4

“Since you have never been this way before”. There are times when God leads us on new paths, oolong ways we do not know. It is the presence of God that shows us the way to go and guides us. Before the crucifixion Jesus stressed the importance of the Holy Spirit. In fact, the angel told Joseph that Jesus would be called Immanuel, which means “God with us” (Matt 1:23). However, the Israelites were told to keep a distance of 2000 cubits from the ark. Now the Spirit lives within us.

3:5

“Joshua told the people ‘Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you”. The people were to dedicate themselves to God. There are two key reasons for this. First, if we want to see the Lord do wonders amongst us we need to be dedicated to Him. Secondly, if the Lord does do amazing things and we are not dedicated to Him we will not be able to stand it.
