3:21
“Heaven must receive Him”. Christ is currently in heaven, but He will return to earth “to restore all things”. Satan thought he had upset all of God’s plans when he succeeded in tempting Adam and Eve to sin, and so death came into the world. However, all his plans are overturned in Christ, and all God’s plans are fulfilled in Christ. In Rev 21:3 it says that the dwelling of God is with man. God’s promises to restore all things are given in many and various ways through the prophets.
3:22,23
Peter then refers to Moses, who was a prophet, quoting from Deut 18:15-19. Moses knew that someone greater than he would come later. We must listen to Jesus. In fact failure to listen to Jesus will result in that person being “completely cut off from their people”. In the immediate context Peter was stressing the importance of the Jews listening to Jesus instead of rejecting Him. In a modern context there are far too many who seem to think that we can sit in judgement on God’s words, rather than allowing God’s words to shape us.
