3:13,14
Peter now takes them right back to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The gospel was not something new in the sense that it sprang out of nowhere. Rather it was the fulfilment of the promises given to the patriarchs, and throughout the Old Testament. It is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob who is at work. Peter then points them to Jesus and the crucifixion. The people had handed Jesus over to be killed. The religious leaders were the main instigators of this, but when Pilate gave them the opportunity to let Jesus go they chose to set a murderer free and to see the Son of God killed. They had “disowned the Holy and Righteous One”.
3:15,16
They had killed the “author of life”, but men do not have the final word, for God raised Jesus from the dead And Peter and John were witnesses to this fact. They had met the risen Christ. SO the man had been healed “by faith in the name of Jesus”. The “name of Jesus” refers to the authority of Jesus, it was Jesus who healed the man. “And the faith that comes through Him”. The faith is given by Jesus. The people could all see the real effects of all this.
