Acts 3:19,20 - Repent and turn to God

3:19

Having heard what they did (hand Jesus over), and what God has done, Peter now tells them what they must do. They must repent and turn to God. The result of this is that their sins would be wiped out and times of refreshing would come upon them from the Lord. It is hard work persisting in sin, insisting that we can manage on our own. When we do finally turn from sin we find times of refreshing. Life changes and a burden is lifted.

3:20

“And that He may send the Messiah, who has been appointed for you - even Jesus.” This may be a reference to the second coming of Jesus. There is an implication that Christ will not return until Israel turns to Christ. This would be consistent with other parts of the New Testament. God has appointed Christ as the Messiah, so there can be no gainsaying what God has declared.  It should be noted that the “times of refreshing” part appears in 3:19 in some translations (e.g. KJV, NASB, NIV), while others have it in 3:20 (e.g. CSB, ESV, NLT).
