11:7
The next hero to be named is Noah. He was warned about the coming flood. At the time there was no sight of a coming flood, yet Noah believed God and acted upon the warning, i.e. He built the ark as instructed to by God. He also had a godly fear. "By faith he condemned the world". People may have said there was no warning, yet Noah and his actions were evidence against them. Today people may say there is no God, or insufficient evidence. The fact that we do believe demonstrates that God can be known, and that their arguments are groundless.
11:8
We now turn to Abraham, who receives much more attention than anyone else. Abraham was the father of the nation, and every Hebrew would know that. So if Abrahams life and relationship with God was all about faith, then the life of the people of God must be all about faith. Paul too majored on Abraham as foundational to how God wanted His people to live. The writer's exposition of Abraham covers all aspects of his life, starting with the initial call. Abraham was called to leave his people and his land. God didn't tell him where he was going, but Abraham went anyway. Why? Because he put his trust in God. God, and what He has said, is the foundation of our faith. Abraham went looking to receive a better inheritance.
