27:20-23
We now get a bunch of sexual sins. Sleeping with your father’s wife is dishonouring for the father. Sexual relations with an animal, while being simply wrong, was also associated with some pagan religious practices. Sleeping with your sister is also cursed. It is a simple fact that sexual immorality causes all sorts of problems, and this is why the Bible persistently warns against it.
27:24-26
Now we can easily understand “Cursed is anyone who kills their neighbour”, but why the addition of “secretly”? Maybe it is a warning against thinking you can do wrong and get away with it. Maybe no man knows what you have done, but God knows. Then we have another killing curse. This time about accepting a bribe to kill an innocent person. Maybe a person put in such a position may have thought that they could do the deed secretly.
The list of curses concludes with the general warning that anyone who does not uphold the Law is under a curse.
