John 1:10,11 - His own did not receive Him

1:10

The world had been created through Christ. It is Him who gave life to all men. Yet the world did not recognise Him. Things are often presented as if God is on trial, nothing could be further from the truth. It is we who need to provide an explanation for our actions, and the only sensible answer we can give is to acknowledge our guilt and to repent. Our rebellion against God was an utterly illogical thing to do. Atheism is an irrational belief system, founded on a lie. Why should we give God the glory? Because He created us and gave us life, because without Him we have nothing and are nothing. Because man has chosen to base his life on a lie he is blind, he is blinded by sin, and so we do not recognise the king of kings, even when He appears as a man.

1:11

“He came to that which was His own, but His own did not receive Him. “that which was His own” could be translated “His own home”. In Revelation 21:3 the culmination of all things involves “God’s dwelling place is now among the people. John 1:14 tells us that the word became flesh and dwelt amongst us. When Adam and Eve sinned they hid from God. We try to treat God as though He is far away and distant. This is not the way things are meant to be. The failure of the Jews to receive Jesus highlights the effects of sin on all mankind. God is a personal God and created us for fellowship with Him.
