Genesis 4:10-12 - What have you done?

4:10

The Lord knew exactly what Cain had done, and Abel’s “blood cries out to me from the ground”. There was a demand for justice. The Lord cannot and does not overlook injustice. If that was all there was to it then we would all be in big trouble. However, it is not all there is to it. The blood of Jesus was shed for our forgiveness, and this “speaks a better word than the blood of Abel” (Heb 12:24). But there needs to be repentance and believing in order for someone to avail themselves of the benefits of the blood of Jesus.

4:11,12

Cain is told that he is under a curse. There are similarities between this and the curse pronounced on Adam, but it also seems a little more personal. Cain had been a man who worked the soil (Gen 4:2), but he would be driven from the ground. Although he would try to work the ground it would no longer yield its crops for him. So he would be a “restless wanderer”. Sin turns us into lost souls. The things we try to do no longer seem to work.
