When we see some ungodly structure seeming to dominate our natural reaction is to fear it. These verses show that it is the ungodly structure that needs to fear, for it says here that it was because of its strength and pride that Egypt would be handed over. And Egypt would be handed over to the “ruler of the nations”, that was Babylon, and dealt with according to the wickedness of that nation. So often the ungodly will turn upon each other. In World War II it was evil Communist Russia that made evil Nazi Germany suffer. Egypt had seen this happen to Assyria.
31:13,14
Back in Genesis God destroyed the tower of Babel, and the peoples were all given different languages. Now the nations would take advantage of fallen Egypt. When a nation is powerful other lands pay homage to the nation, but as soon as it falls their attitude becomes very different. Egypt would be shown that she was no better than any other nation. And no individual is better than another, all die.
