Ezekiel 30:13-26 - I will destroy the idols

30:13-19

The idols of Judah and Israel were a major cause of the judgement that fell on them, the same also applied to Egypt. We know that she was full of idols, God would destroy them. Egypt’s power would be taken away from her. Various places in Egypt are mentioned, adding to the complete picture, and stressing the reality of what was going to happen. So Egypt would realise that her strength was not so great after all.

30:20-26

The date for this is 587BC and it refers to events in the year before. Zedekiah had pleaded with Egypt for help, and Pharaoh Hophra had sent his army to Jerusalem, but had been repulsed by the Babylonians. This is what the broken arm is referring to. This was not to be an injury from which Egypt would recover, “both his arms would be broken”. Later Babylon would attack and defeat Egypt. Egypt was going to lose all her strength. Egypt would be defeated and scattered, they would see that they were not the masters of the universe!
