30:1-4
We now have another oracle about Egypt. This one is not dated, but is generally thought to be shortly after the first one, i.e. shortly after the beginning of 587 BC. The oracle refers to the day of the Lord, a phrase more often associated with words concerning Israel. For a long time Egypt had been carrying on as if she was the master of her own destiny, something that many nations do. But nations are not in charge of their own destiny, neither is any individual. The Lord determines the destiny of nations and of individuals. We should seek to “trust and obey”, rather than seek to be masters. So the power of the Lord will be demonstrated by the fall of Egypt, by her military defeat. Her wealth would be carried away, and her foundations destroyed.
