Ezekiel 29:17-21 - I am going to give Egypt to Nebuchadnezzar

29:17,18

This date is the latest in Ezekiel, 571 BC. It is inserted here because it links words about Egypt with those about Tyre. While there was a long siege of Tyre by the Babylonians, about thirteen years in length, the siege failed to conquer the city, though Babylon did gain considerable influence over Tyre, inserting its placemen into various positions of power. “Every head was rubbed bare ..” is describing the enormous effort that had gone into the siege, all for very little reward.

29:19-21

Egypt may have thought that Babylon would not have the energy nor inclination to attack Egypt after this disappointing outcome. But it is God who determines the outcomes of geopolitical events, and He was going to give Egypt into Babylon’s hands, and she would carry off wealth from the country. When these things happened God would make a “horn grow for the house of Israel”, this  could be a reference to Cyrus being prepared, for he would later be used to defeat Babylon and start the return to Jerusalem. Ezekiel’s mouth would also be opened.
