29:8-12
So Egypt would be put to the slaughter. Both “man and beast” would be killed, and the land would become desolate. “Then they will know that I am the Lord.” “Because you said ... “ Saying that they made the Nile was a fundamental lie that has deep implications. Man thinking he just came out of nothing, that we are not created beings, is a foundational issue. It makes a difference whether we believe we are created and are accountable to the Creator, or if we think we just appeared by chance and are accountable to no one. The Egyptians would reap the harvest they had sown. At present the West is reaping the fruits of its rejection of God.
29:13-16
This scattering would be a temporary thing. It would last for forty years, then they would be returned to the land. But now they would be a lowly nation, no longer would they be a powerful and influential land. It would be weak and would not rule over other nations. No longer would people turn to Egypt for help. Instead it would be a “reminder of their sin in turning to her for help”. This particularly applies to Israel. “Then they will know that I am the Lord”. Egypt would see that she did not have the power that she thought she had. What happened to Egypt should be a warning to the West, and in particular to America.
