3:8
“I know your deeds”. In this instance, this was entirely positive, Christ gives the church encouragement. The open door could be a reference to a missionary opportunity, but it seems more likely that it is the open door to the kingdom. Christ has opened the door to a new life, to the kingdom of God. There was much opposition, but the opponents were not able to shut the door that Christ has opened. Humanly speaking, the church was weak. They were few in number, and had little earthly power. But they had kept Christ’s word and had not denied His Name, despite all the pressure that was put upon them. This was far more important than any earthly strength, and was of eternal value. Often the church will be weak in the world’s eyes. It is vital that we remain faithful to the Lord.
