Now this verse does not fit with the common picture often painted in churches. The quote comes from Psalm 2:9. Jesus received authority from the Father, and we will receive authority from Jesus. Right back in Genesis 1 it speaks of God telling man to have dominion over the earth. This got all messed up when we sinned against God. However, God’s original purpose will be fulfilled, and that involves us having authority and restoring the earth.
2:28,29
“I will also give that one the morning star”. Rev 22:16 refers to Christ as the Morning Star, so this probably means the Christ will be given to the one who overcomes. I.e. we will know Christ and be with Him. Or I suppose it could refer to our reigning with Christ. As with all the letters we are urged to hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches. The teaching and instructions contained within these letters is not just for individuals, but for the church as a whole.
