3:20
Far from punishing us, if we humble ourselves and repent then Jesus “will come in and eat with that person and they with me”. The call to repentance is a life offering call. God is infinitely merciful, but we need to appreciate the nature of that mercy. We are wrong. We do wrong and sin is part of our nature. We need to be healed. So first we need to recognise that we have a problem, that we have a dire need. Then we need to recognise that Jesus has paid the price for our sins, there is complete healing in Him of our dire condition.
3:21,22
Ladoicea received a severe rebuke, perhaps the most severe of the seven churches, but there is still a glorious promise to the one who overcomes. In some of the letters it is overcoming the persecution from others. Here it is overcoming the battle from within, the battle from our flesh or human nature. And while this rebuke is the most serious, the reward is arguable the greatest. He will give us the right to sit on His throne with Him. Just think about that for a moment! Oh, we certainly need to listen to this.
