21:13
Jesus quotes from Is 56:7 and Jer 7:11. Man has completely corrupted God’s purposes, something we are very prone to doing. The temple was meant to be a house of prayer, a place where people met with and communicated with God. Instead it had become a “den of thieves”, a place where people were exploited. Those who fleece people for money under the guise of the prosperity gospel should take note of the anger that Jesus displays here.
21:14,15
Having seen what that the temple should not be like, verse 14 gives a picture of what it was meant to be like. “The blind and the lame came to Him, and He healed them.” Moreover, the children in the temple courts shouted “Hosanna to the Son of David”. God loves the sound of children praising Him. The chief priests and teachers of the Law, however, were indignant when “they saw the wonderful things He did”. Their hearts were utterly corrupted.
