Jeremiah 39:11-18 - So he remained among his own people

39:11-14

Nebuchadnezzar had given orders to Nebuzaradan, the commander of the imperial guard, to look after Jeremiah. God had promised that He would keep Jeremiah safe. We see that this did not mean he would have an easy life, nor one that was free from danger, but God did look after him. And God provided help through the most unlikely sources. When we trust God we are trusting Him because of who He is. We must not be forever trying to work out how He is going to help us! Jeremiah was released from the courtyard and taken back to his home.  “So he remained among his own people”.

39:15-18

Remember that earlier Ebed-Melek had acted to have Jeremiah rescued. God spoke to Jeremiah to get him to tell Ebed-Melek that He would rescue him. For the city was indeed going to be destroyed, there would be no immediate prosperity. It is difficult and costly to go against the prevailing tide, but to go against God is far more dangerous. And if we do stick with God and go against the tide, God will look after us. Ebed-Melek would be rewarded for his trust in the Lord.
