Jeremiah 38:10-15 - Do not hide anything from me

38:10-13

The king commanded Ebed-Melek to take some men and go and rescue Jeremiah. The king seems to have little idea of what is going on, and to have no clear plan or strategy. We then get some details of how Ebed-Melek went about fulfilling the command. One might wonder why these details are in the word of God, but they help to demonstrate the authenticity of the word.

38:14,15

After Jeremiah was rescued, the king sent for him. Again, we get little details like his being brought to the third entrance to the temple. He tells Jeremiah that he is going to ask him something, and does not want Jeremiah to hide anything from him. This is all a bit rich, given all that has gone before, and Jeremiah points this out to the king. Jeremiah points out that the king may well kill him in reaction to his answer, or at least not pay any attention. Jeremia has spent years telling the king and the people what was going on, but has been ignored, or persecuted, for his troubles.
