62:8,9
These verse reveal something of the purposes God has for His people. He has sworn this by His right hand and His mighty arm. This is not an idle promise, but one that God is firmly committed to. No longer will His people be plundered. Rather, they will enjoy the fruit of their labours. And this will be done “in the courts of my sanctuary”, in the presence of God.
62:10
For most of her history Israel had been running scared of the other nations, they were a threat to her. Much the same can be said about Israel today. Much the same can be said about the church, and much of the church has responded to this situation in the equally wrong ways that Israel responded. Parts of the church have sought to make alliance with the world, to bow down to the world’s idols. An equally wrong approach is to isolate ourselves. The vision presented here by God is a very different one. The gates are to be opened, made ready for people to pass through them. The highway is to be built up so that the nations can come. And a banner is to be raised for the nations. Today the church should present as pure a gospel as we can. We are to present a different way of life, a kingdom way of life, and to summon the nations.
