60:21
“Then will your people be righteous”. We are not saved by our own righteousness, the Bible and our own experiences prove beyond all doubt that such an enterprise is a futile one. But we are saved for righteousness. This works out in two ways. Forensically, or legally, we are made righteous by the cross, and we need to fully appreciate this. We are absolutely righteous because of the blood of Christ. We are also being made righteous in the sense of the quality of our lives and our character. That is the work of sanctification by the Holy Spirit. We will possess the land forever! And we will be for the praise of God’s glory. We need to appreciate the full extent of God’s plans and purposes.
60:22
Zech 12:8 has a similar sort of prophecy. When the Lord acts, when His people trust Him, His people become strong. We do need to appreciate the enormous plans and vision that God has for His people. We can look at the world and we see evil and godlessness all over the place. We can think or ourselves as a little band. Now there is a time for this (eg Rev 2:9), and there are lands (mainly Muslim) where the number of Christians is exceedingly small. However, we need to remind ourselves of what the end result will be, and that is every knee bowing to Christ, and large numbers believing in Him.
