Isaiah 62:3,4 - You will be a crown of splendour in the Lord's hand

62:3
We will be a crown of splendour in the Lord’s hand. Consider the state of the nation of Israel, a land that so often had brought shame to the name of the Lord, as the Bible itself states. But God’s plans will not be thwarted, and a time will come when Israel brings glory to the Lord. Likewise, the church often besmirches the name of the Lord, that too will change. Things will change, we will change, and we will be an instrument of glory in the Lord’s hand.

62:4

Israel and her land were despised by the nations. Israel was called “deserted” because she had suffered so much and seemed to be utterly abandoned. The land was called “desolate” because that was what the land of Israel was. People may call you names, and it might seem that, at least superficially, that the names are appropriate, that they are justified. This is a “but” situation. For the Lord had not finished His dealings with Israel. The suffering was largely a result of God’s righteous judgement upon Israel, but He had not yet finished with her. Salvation was to come, and still is to come to Israel. This would change her name. On a number of occasions in the Bible it speaks of God giving someone, or a nation, a new name. This does not simply mean a change of nomenclature, but a change in nature. The people would be called Hephzibar, which means “my delight is in her” and the land “Beulah” which means “married”. Why would this happen? Because the Lord would take delight in her, the land would belong to God.
