Isaiah 48:7-9 - From birth you were a rebel

48:7
Now God is going to do something which they had not heard of before, something which has only just come into being. Prior to that God had given many warnings of judgement that would come upon them. These were included in general terms within the Law, and in both general and specific terms within the prophets.

48:8,9

The reason they had not heard of these new things is that their ears had not been opened, they were unable to hear or understand them. When giving the parables Jesus often said “let him who has ears to hear listen”. The major problem with the Israelites was that they had treacherous hearts, they had always been rebellious. God had held back His wrath. People often complain “how can a God of love send people to hell”. The truth is that if God had fully treated us as we deserve He would have destroyed us all long ago, He would have destroyed Israel long ago. But God has held back His wrath, but not forever, and He has done this for His name’s sake.
