2 Corinthians 3:10,11 - How much greater is the glory of that which lasts!

3:10
Now that the gospel has been revealed, that the new covenant has arrived, the old covenant has no glory in comparison with the magnificent glory of the gospel. Now we need to appreciate what Paul is not saying. He is not saying that the old covenant was a load of rubbish, or that it no longer has any value. See how much teaching in the New Testament is based on the Old Testament, or draws on it. The Old Covenant has now been fulfilled in Christ. The new covenant creates new people! We are born again, we become a new creation, we are being changed from the inside. And the old covenant said that would happen, but also that the old covenant itself could not achieve that.

3:11

The old covenant was transitory. So how has it still got value? It has value because it revealed something of the heart of God, and the character of God. The Law was good, it is we who are not good. So the Law was limited in what it could achieve, in what it was designed to achieve. Yet it had glory, it had importance. So how much more important is the new covenant. One point we should note here is that Hebrews says that the price for disobedience to the new covenant will be much greater than the price for disobedience to the old covenant. A common view is that judgement has now gone out of the window. That sort of thinking is so wrong and so unbiblical.
