2 Corinthians 4:1,2 - We do not lose heart

4:1
The world presents desirable jobs as offering money, fame, and power, and as a recognition of your skill and ability. Paul is describing apostleship and gospel service as completely different. Referring back to 2 Cor 3:6, the grounds for our being chosen are not any ability or worth of our own, but on the basis of the grace and mercy of God. Yet the glory of the gospel is far greater than anything else in the world, so when things get difficult we do not lose heart.

4:2

The world is quite happy to use deception, to use underhand methods. Some in the church will distort the word of God. Prosperity teachers and sin-affirming groups are examples of this. Paul followed a very different route. He sought to act with absolute integrity. He presented the truth of the gospel in the clearest possible terms, and did so in the presence of God.
