Revelation 8:1-5 - The power of prayer

Now we get the seventh seal opened, and rather than leading to a simple conclusion it leads to a series of seven more revelations. In this case, seven trumpets. The seven trumpets could be looked at as the culmination of the seven seals, or as a replay of the events with some different perspectives added.
There was silence in heaven for half-an-hour, indicating that something momentous is about to happen. Seven special angels are mentioned. It was believed that the seven angels presented the prayers of the saints to God. A key point to note here is the vital role that the prayers of God's people play. There are things that God will not do without the prayers of the people. We are commanded to pray and pray we should, and pray we must.
The angel filled the censer with fire and hurled it upon the earth. Our prayers can seem weak at times, but in reality they are powerful. Note also the implication that the prayers were "violent". Sometimes we can be far too nice in prayer.
