Now we see Jesus win the victory. Heaven was standing open. The answer comes from heaven. In Colossians 3:1-4 Paul tells us to look up to heaven and to Christ, in the Psalms David speaks of the answer coming from heaven. John saw a white horse, the colour white signifies victory. There are various names given to the victor, and the first is faithful and true. We can rely completely on Christ. Difficulties tempt us to think He has forgotten us or will let us down, but we can have complete trust in Him. Jesus judges and makes war, and does so with righteousness. We need to have a complete picture of the Lord. When the world is pretending to be nice about Jesus it is always His forgiveness and love for the unlovely that they will mention, never His power and authority.
He has many crowns, signifying majesty. And He has a name that no one else can know. Now this may seem rather strange given that several names are given in this very section. However, to know someone's name was to have a degree of power over them. No one knew the warrior's name, so no one had any power over Him.
He was dressed in a robe dipped in blood. This is almost certainly a reference to the cross. It is on the cross that Jesus won the victory. Some think of this blood as being the blood of His conquered enemies, this thought may be in mind as well.
Then we get another name, the Word of God. John calls Him the word at the start of his gospel. The saviour they trusted in was the one who wins the victory.
