Mark 1:19-21 - Without delay He called them

1:19,20

Next Jesus calls James and John. They too were fishermen, and were mending their nets. They left their father and the hired men and followed Jesus. This implies they had abandoned their fishing business, which on the death of their father would be theirs. So again, we see the dramatic nature of following Jesus that Mark is portraying.

1:21

Capernaum was a fishing village, its population was estimated to be about 1500. Jesus went to the synagogue on the Sabbath as was the custom of all good Jews. There he began to teach, this was probably at the invitation of the synagogue ruler.
