7:23
Israel is a unique nation. Now look at why it is unique. It is “the one nation on earth that God went out to redeem as a people for Himself, and to make a name for Himself, and to perform great and awesome wonders ...” This is all about God and His glory. This does not mean that Israel is especially worthy in herself, her “worthiness” rests purely with the Lord. Her status lies in the Lord. The Old Testament makes it abundantly clear that Israel is a sinful nation. God has not finished with Israel, but Israel will only find true peace when she acknowledges her sinfulness and puts her trust in Jesus Christ.
7:24
“You have established your people Israel as your very own forever, and you, Lord, have become their God.” There are two extreme positions that I believe are utterly wrong. One is that Israel no longer has a special place in God’s plan, and the other is essentially that Israel can do no wrong. Both of these run completely counter to the Word of God. There is a heart relationship between God and Israel, there is utter commitment to Israel, and there is utter anguish at the sinfulness of Israel. Arguments about Israel’s place (or lack of place) in God’s plans become theoretical, ignoring the heart relationship that God has for Israel.
