Numbers 8:23-9:5 - Celebrate the Passover

8:23-26

Levites were to retire from carrying the tabernacle at the age of fifty, though they could still continue to serve as guards. This was to make sure no unauthorised person approached the Tabernacle, as this could have disastrous consequences.

9:1-5

The first Passover had taken place in Egypt. They were now a year on from there and they were commanded to observe the Passover. They were to remember how they had been set free from captivity. In the same way we are to remember what Jesus has done for us on the cross. As Jesus said in Lk 22:19, we are to do this in remembrance of Him. Being set free is only the beginning, as it was for Israel, but it is vital that we remember how we were set free. In Ex12:14 they were told that they were to observe the Passover for generations to come.
