Numbers 10:29-36 - May your enemies be scattered

10:29-32

It is unclear who Hobab and Reuel are in relation to Jethro (Ex 3:1; 18:1,2). Reuel may be an alternative name for Jethro. Whatever the case, Moses tells his father-in-law that they are leaving for Canaan, the Promised Land, and invited him to come along. However, his father-in-law refuses to follow Moses, despite Moses’ attempts at persuasion.

10:33-36

They set for only three days. So this was a rather short journey. Sometimes God takes us on small steps, at other times it is for much longer journeys. God sought out a resting place for them. At each step, whether a setting out step, or a settling down one, Moses cried out to the Lord. Either for the Lord to defeat their enemies (or rather God’s enemies), or to call all of Israel back together again.
