9:6-14
Because of the uncleanness rules certain people were stopped from observing the Passover. They raised the matter with Moses, saying that this was unfair. Moses inquired of the Lord, and was told that they could observe the Passover in the second month, rather than the first. There are a number of things to note. One is that the cleanness rules are observed, but God also takes an accommodating attitude. Secondly, being unclean was not the same as being sinful. For touching a dead body was not a sinful act. Finally, sojourners, travellers, were also to observe the Passover, it was the same for everyone.
9:15-23
Once the Tabernacle was set up the cloud of the Lord’s covered the Tabernacle. It dwelt over the Tabernacle during the day, and appeared as fire during the night. The cloud guided the people. While it remained on the Tabernacle the people stayed put, when it lifted they followed the cloud until it settled. Sometimes the cloud would remain in one place for a long time. It could be just for a day or two, or even a month or two. There was no fixed pattern. What mattered was that the people followed the leading of the Lord. Likewise, the Lord may want us to remain in a place for a long time, or for a short time.
