10:3
The Jews (and Paul is using this as a generalisation, i.e. the Jews in general, for some Jews did believe in Christ) were ignorant of the righteousness of God. In the earlier chapters of Romans Paul has been describing the righteousness of God. So these Jews sought to establish their own righteousness and did not submit to God’s righteousness. We see this approach today as well, with people thinking that we can decide how to approach God, or what God should be like. This is foolishness, it is also offensive to God. We should submit to His righteousness.
10:4
“Christ is the end of the Law for righteousness”. This means that Christ is the end of the Law as a means of attaining righteousness. The morality of the Law remains. For the Law came from God, it reflects the heart of God, God’s way of doing things and His requirements of us. The principles remain. The ceremonial aspects are no longer relevant, but the truth that a blood sacrifice was necessary is supremely relevant, and Christ is that one and only perfect sacrifice.
