Leviticus 25:1-7 - Keep a Sabbath to the Lord

25:1-4

We have already had commands on several occasions that people must observe a Sabbath. However, the principle extended far wider than that, and in this chapter we will learn of some of that extension. First, it is worth noting that these instructions were given long before they entered the Promised  Land. God was looking ahead to a future time. For six years they were to work and tend the land as normal, sowing, pruning and gathering. But in the seventh year they were to neither sow new crops nor prune the existing ones (this being relevant to vineyards).

25:5-7

At first glance it might seem that 25:5 and 25:6,7 are contradicting each other. What it probably means is that what grew in the Sabbath year was to be left till the start of the new cycle, and gathered in at that point. The land would still produce something even though it was not being actively tended.
